The STILL exhibition is a rare, personal and intimate retrospective of the many adventures Alan Slifen and Lionel Richie have had around the world. Alan first photographed Mr Richie at a Commodores Concert when he was just 17. He said “Even though it has been three decades, looking through the photos it feels like yesterday.” On one visit to London he was asked to take a picture of Princess Diana and Lionel Richie. This photograph captures so much about his unique position as an artist, depicting two glamorous celebrities in a very natural and warm moment. It also includes photos of Nicole Richie as a child, Frank Sinatra and the recent performance at Glastonbury.
Although Alan Slifen was born in the US he has affection for Notting Hill. He began dating his wife in here. He told me, “I stayed in this beautiful apartment in Notting Hill, but remember watching the start of the first Iraq War about that time. The contrast was striking, I felt lucky to be in Notting Hill, not somewhere else. If I lived in here in UK, I would live in Notting Hill. I love the sense of community.”
I saw Alan at work during Lionel Richie’s gig in London last week. You would not even have realised he was there. This specially curated exhibition can be seen at the beautiful 45 Park Lane Hotel until 29th July 2016. 45-park-lane
