Stitch in time

Screen Shot 2014-07-02 at 15.55.05Sew Portobello, a project to gather together sewers and those who would like to sew,  has been launched this week. Creative sorts who love sewing, want to earn some extra money or who would like to pass on their skills to others are invited to join in at the studio and shop at 24 Portobello Green. Elizabeth Spring who has lived in Notting Hill since the 70s and set it up with a council grant says she set it up because: “I was interested in the increasing gap between people who live here and wanted to revive the old Notting Hill where everyone gathered together through shared interests.”  There are two qualified sewing teachers available from Monday to Wednesday, and then textiles and ceramics on sale to raise money for the project from Thursday to Sunday. Some of the things made are sold on the market, third Friday of every month outside Garcias. Spring says: “The whole point is that locals drop in and join in.”   elizabethspring
