Here’s your chance to buy an amazing work by Edmund de Waal and help our local Second Half Centre. The piece is called Speaking Aloud (above) and will be sold in a silent auction at a Second Half exhibition to celebrate and inspire older artists. All the artists exhibiting did other things in the first half of their lives and now they are unleashing their creative talent in the second half. The bowls (pic right) by Iva Polachova are gorgeous. She spent 25 years running Movement and Relaxation Therapy groups and also completed a degree course in ceramics. Now, this is her new found career
Founder Jill Shaw-Ruddock says: “The Second Half career art exhibition and sale, Celebrating Living Old Masters, is about celebrating growing older and continued creativity.” If you are searching for new ways to develop in the late summer of your own life, this is a good place to start and you may be inspired to do one of the courses on offer – computing, gardening, cooking, dancing, yoga or art.
This is the fifth year that The Second Half Foundation has organised an arts event in support of Silver Sunday, a city wide initiative that honours the contributions older people make to our community. Money raised at the exhibition goes to the running of The Second Half Centre now run by Open Age.
It’s at The Second Half Centre at St Charles Centre for Health and Wellbeing, Exmoor St. On Thursday, October 13th 6.30pm – 8.30 pm and Friday, 14th October from 11am – 8pm thesecondhalffoundation
