Salvation Army robbery

Any festive spirit was soon quenched when last monday (5th Jan) when the Portobello Salvation Army leaders were alerted by a local businessman that their community centre on Portobello Road had been broken into. What they found on arrival beggered belief. Culprits had kicked a window in, entered the premises and had gone on a rampage; smashing four doors beyond repair, damaging two others, forcing open cupboards, filing cabinets and storerooms and making off with computers, projectors, the pa system, a large screen tv, toys and equipment used by the toddlers group and even food from the foodbank. Every single room had been broken into and stuff had been thrown across the floor. The community has been shocked by this attack on an organisation that runs programmes for the local community. At present the hall remains closed as necessary repairs are carried out. salvationarmy
