Rum restaurant wins Guinness World record.

Cottons Caribbean Restaurant and Salon de Rhum in Notting Hill Gate has just been officially awarded a Guniness World Record achievement for the bar with 372 rums commercially available. Barrie Lamine (pic left) explained how there are two types of rums, industrial rum made from molasses and agricol rum made from sugar cane on the French Caribbean islands. They dscf9084are both as good as each other, he says. Lamine is from the original  Camden Cottons rum bar, which has been pouring the hard stuff for 31 years. Some of the rums are called overproof, with an alcohol content of greater than 57.5%, though most are bottled and labelled as ‘151’, meaning an alcohol content of a eye-watering 75.5%. Most are around 40% proof. For you, dear reader, I tried the cocktail in the photograph, a Reggae Rum Punch, with Wray & Nephew overproof rum, orange and pineapple juice, lime juice and grenadine. Just a couple of sips, mind. Happy Hour, from 5pm – 7pm when cocktails are £5 and there are plans for a Cocktail shaking masterclass. cottons-restaurant
