Portobello Green Summer Festival this weekend

Just a reminder. This weekend’s Portobello Green Summer Festival is a new free arts festival featuring live music, dance, spoken word, DJs and street food,which takes place in the shadow of the iconic Westway flyover has been set up to champion young talent in North Kensington. Artists signed up to play include Coldredlight, Dead Pretties, Chelsea Blues, Marcus Valance and Sebastian Blake.

Part of Acklam Village will be turned into a theatre featuring young up and coming musicians across a huge range of genres and focused around talent reflecting the incredible artistic heritage of the area. The bar at Acklam Village will also provide live music and the popular Acklam Village Street Market will be providing its usual excellent selection of food from around the world.

On the Sunday Portobello Green will host a family fun day run by Venture Community Association and featuring a glow in the dark disco tent, a bubble show, arts and crafts, healthy treats, and a sports zone. The free event is being supported and funded by Westway Trust, the charity responsible for looking after the land under the Westway in the community interest.

Lead curator and West London artist Michael Speechley, says: “This is a part of London with links to so much musical history from the Clash to Blur and influence of the Notting Hill Carnival. That culture is still ever present and the array of young talent we’ve got here is fantastic.  This is a chance to see some of the most exciting musicians and performers before they hit the big time.”
