Pop Up art gallery in Lonsdale

For one week only award winning British Artist, Michael Sole, will be commandeering a two floored shop in Notting Hill to exhibit his latest paintings. Having studied at Wimbledon College of Art Sole started his career in a studio in Antibes, close to the haunts of Picasso, Renoir and Matisse. He has since moved back to the UK and has a large studio in Bournemouth. “I wouldn’t be able to find a studio that size in London and I love being close to the sea.”

This is Sole’s seventh pop up show, and the Lonsdale Road shop he is showing in was in art gallery about two years ago. Sole is a big fan of pop ups, he rent shops out, whitewash the walls and then have a show and he says he is: “Keen to bring awareness to other aspiring artists that there are other avenues out there to get their work seen.” There is a website, Appear Here which manages pop up shops. “These pop ups are really taking off,” he says. “I’ve been doing [pop ups] since I was 18, there are so many empty shops and artists can’t afford to rent them full time. It’s a really good idea for artists as galleries galleries can take up to 60% of everything you sell.” Michael Sole, at 1 Lonsdale Road, 3rd – 9th October. michaelsole
