Journalist Helen Kirwan-Taylor not only pens incisive features on anything that is The Thing of The Moment, before we even realise it is, for the Sunday Times, Evening Standard and a multitude of glossy magazines, she has now turned her hand to art. The work she produces is colourful, mixed media and usually involves her stock-in-trade, letters and words. Jazzed up a bit.
Having studied at Chelsea School of Design and Art, Kirwan-Taylor’s work combines painting, drawing, collage, scrapbooking, decoupage and photography with found objects, stickers, toys, magnets, trinkets and vintage ephemera taken apart and lovingly re-homed. You can often spot her foraging on Portobello Road. Her first solo exhibition last year at Themes & Variations was a success and, as well as doing private commissions she has now produced a set of stickers, the one we need to tell you about is Notting Hill Love (pic). “Can you see the skip on the E, the Notting Hill credits inside the little movie screen, the famous blue door, paparazzi and security cameras (this is NOTTING HILL!) the Electric Cinema, Holland Park and of course a Luvvie family?” Kirwan-Taylor asks. helenkirwantaylor
