Local politician Tony Benn dies

imgresLabour politician Tony Benn, who moved to his home on Holland Park Avenue (see pic) in 1951, died peacefully yesterday at the age of 88. His children Stephen, Hilary, Melissa and Joshua said in a public statement: “We will miss above all his love which has sustained us throughout our lives. But we are comforted by the memory of his long, full and inspiring life and so proud of his devotion to helping others as he sought to change the world for the better.” Notting Hill’s Nicholas Stadlen, a former High Court judge, who recorded this interview as part of a series called Brief Encounter for the Guardian with Benn in 1996 and it is well worth a listen … www.theguardian.com/politics/audio.
