Izzy Bizu’s gig at the Shepherds Bush Empire was warm and laid back, in keeping with her style and songs. It was a slow burner and she took a while to warm up, but when she did she was excellent.
Bizu was really adored by the audience, who were appreciative and attentive. ‘Circles’ and the new ‘Confession Song’ illustrated how great her songs are. ‘Skinny’ had energy and fun dance moves.
Bizu has the radio hits too. ‘Sweet Honey’ and ‘Talking to You’ had us all singing along. ‘Whatever Makes You Happy’ was a clear crowd pleaser. ‘Mad Behaviour’ seemed to be the favourite though with her voice shining through as she sang it. She saved the best for last and the encore of ‘Floating Lamps’ and ‘I Know’ showed why she won the 2016 BBC Music Introducing Award.
The only slight issue was that the sound was not quite right at the beginning of the set. It was quite hard to hear her words and the drums were overpowering at certain points. Once that was corrected, the show was fresh and exciting. izzybizu.
