Charity NOVA has been boosting the confidence of local disadvantaged adults and helping them gain work skills for 30 years. It supports over 1,400 people a year with employment advice, courses and volunteering opportunities. Its latest achievement is Café Nova, the social enterprise cafe located under the Westway between Ladbroke Grove and Portobello. This is where people who have struggled to get jobs are now learning catering and hospitality skills.
Now the charity wants to raise £15,000 to move to a smaller, more cost-effective building and so it has organised a fund raising evening with comedy music from award winning rapping improviser Rob Broderick (aka Abandoman), some snacks and wine. There will also be an auction by former Sotheby’s chief auctioneer Julian Barran that includes an limited edition print by Paula Rego, meals at local restaurants and even a pair of actor Cherie Lunghi’s Strictly Come Dancing salsa shoes. At Cafe Nova, 3 Thorpe Close, W10, under the Westway between Ladbroke Grove and Portobello Road. Thursday, 24th October, 6-8pm. Tickets £25 novanew.eventbrite and for more about the charity www.novanew Mary-Lu
