Herbal medicine to help you through spring

Allergic rhinitis is the medical term for hay fever, an allergy to a range of pollens found in a number of grasses and the spores of some fungi. Happily herbal medicine has been providing hay fever relief and preventive support for thousands of years and a qualified medical herbalist can create you a 7 – 8 week preventive regime to head-off hay fever and give you the best allergy free spring and summer. We use scientifically researched herbs like eyebright (pic top) and each patient is provided with their own tailor-made prescription based on their complete health review.

Biting midges may be a spring bother too. Fellow herbalist Nikki Darrell says if you apply an infusion of Herb Robert bog myrtle and repellent essential oils such as lavender, tea tree, eucalyptus lemongrass and clove oil all over your exposed body parts you will keep biters at bay. Store in a pump glass bottle with a spray top and keep in the fridge on hot days. Also, make sure you eat vitamin B complex or dietary equivalent as much wild food as you can and avoid sugar.
