Hangman at Royal Court

Hangman by Martin McDonagh opens at the Royal Court for a month from 10th September to 10th October. For those not in-the-know, McDonagh is a rather fine playwright – The Cripple of Inishmaan, The Pillowman and The Beauty Queen of Leenane are three of his plays, he also wrote the films Seven Psychopaths and In Bruges. Hangman is McDonagh’s first play at the Royal Court for ten years and should be excellent. Here’s the blurb: In his small pub in Oldham, Harry is something of a local celebrity. But what’s the second-best hangman in England to do on the day they’ve abolished hanging? Amongst the cub reporters and sycophantic pub regulars, dying to hear Harry’s reaction to the news, a peculiar stranger lurks, with a very different motive for his visit. hangmen
