Good news for sports next to Westway

An air-quality improving  two-metre high wall of ivy has been installed on the Westway Trust estate alongside an eighty-metre section of the Westway Sports and Fitness Centre’s outdoor sports pitches.

The ivy screens thinly cover the frame created for it currently, but once mature will block a significant amount of the pollution coming from traffic on the Westway slip road that is adjacent to the sports pitches.

Funding for the screens was secured from the Greater London Authority and Transport for London by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. A similar screen installed at St Cuthbert with St Matthias School was found to block 36% of nitrogen dioxide and 40% of particulate material pollution originating from a busy adjacent road. sports.westway
