From bean to bar

Shell out and treat yourself to more than just a Chocolate Egg this Easter. If your sweet tooth is looking for something more exotic, head to Akesson’s in Blenheim Crescent. Here you will find some of the finest chocolate Notting Hill has to offer. Owned by cocoa grower Bertil Akesson, the shop offers total indulgence, yet also represents something different – a direct route from cocoa plantation to high street shop. Akesson is one of the leading bean to bar producers in the artisanal industry and has a range of highly regarded, elegantly packaged bars using cocoa and peppers from their own plantations and organic farms in Madagascar, Brazil and Bali.
Akesson’s own single plantation cocoa chocolate bars are showcased here, as well as those made by other chocolatier makers using Akesson’s cocoa beans. As a shopper you will have the chance to sample the different chocolates and also see other crops that are grown on the plantations – cocoa, peppercorns, vanilla, nibs, sugars and other tropical foods.Bertil explains, “We want to offer crops grown there. Chocolate being the link between everything.” In addition, you can grab a cup of hot chocolate-to-go, made with beans from Akesson’s plantations. Notting Hill is lucky to be home to Akesson’s first and only shop – the Easter Bunny really has no excuse to not pay a visit. akessons-organic
