Małgorzata Łapsa-Malawska is having a solo show at The Muse gallery. The show [Your] Forest will exhibit 20 oil paintings and sketches, among them Łapsa-Malawska’s painting Before Childhood Ended which was exhibited in last summer’s Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. This is how she describes the exhibition:[MY] Forests are places of myths, legends and fairy tales; symbolising the hinterlands of our imagination, mystery and danger. For the characters I read lost in the woodlands, so often hold a mirror to the unchartered territories of my own life. [MY] Forest is a place of personal development, a space of opportunity to grow. A place where I exist without gender, to understand man’s need to embrace nature for his answers and for woman to connect with her primal self, the mother. It symbolises a journey to me, one of transition between youth and adulthood. A moment in my life lost without certainty of survival until I emerge from the trees to walk among my fellow man once more.
Once the work is created, some would say the artist is obsolete. Now it’s [YOUR] Forest to explore?
