Oak trees grow at the Idler

Former art historian Stephen Taylor suffered a series of bereavements which somehow led him to sit in a field painting the same tree over and over again in wind and snow, sunshine and darkness. Now he has written a book about it and is going to give a talk at The Idler Academy. The book was an Oprah Winfrey Book of the Week with a review which opened, “Some books show you how to laugh, some show you how to think, but, every once a while, one will show you how to live…” In the UK Oak has been a Guardian “Gallery” feature, The New Statesman’s Picture Book of The Week and attracted a feature in The Daily Mail’s Weekend supplement. Wednesday 18th April, 6.30pm for 7pm. Ends 8.30pm, The Idler Academy 81 Westbourne Park Road, £20 with wine and nibbles, book on 020 7221 5908 http://idler.co.uk
