An exhibition of oil paintings by James Joll is coming up at the Lacey Gallery. All works will be sold to raise money for local youth charity The Rugby Portobello Trust, Wiltshire Air Ambulance and S J Noble Trust. Joll has painted almost all of his life and spent a year at the Chelsea College of Art after leaving university. After that, earning meant he didn’t have much time for painting until he retired, so the paintings in this exhibition have been done over the past decade and cover a wide range architectural studies and landscapes both local and from further afield. Joll’s smaller works are generally done from nature but for the larger paintings he relies on sketches and photographs.
Joll’s work evokes quietness and a sense of calm, reflecting the enjoyment James finds in painting. He has never pursued a career as an artist, and this will be his first gallery exhibition arranged solely in support of his chosen charities. At the Lacey Gallery of Contemporary Art, Clarendon Cross, from 7th – 12th March. laceycontemporarygallery
