Californian author Emma Cline, whose debut novel The Girls is already one of Lutyens & Rubinstein’s favourite books of the year is coming to talk about the book at it’s shop next month. So we bet they are really happy. The story goes like this: It’s a hot Californian summer, 1969. In the dying days of a floundering counter-culture a young girl is unwittingly caught up in unthinkable violence, and a decision made at this moment, on the cusp of adulthood, will shape her life. Ta da. Goodreads gives the book 4.5 stars, out of five, and says “Girls—their vulnerability, strength, and passion to belong—are at the heart of this stunning first novel.” and Maya Singer, Vogue.com contributor, says The Girls is Cline’s sure-to-be-a-blockbuster debut.
