Over fifties dine out

2Lunches for older residents only cost £5 for three courses in a local restaurant. The bi-monthly lunches for over-55s are subsidised by Age UK and Norland Ward who are offering older residents in the area the chance to have another three course meal in a local restaurant in January. It is a chance to have an outing with friends or to go alone and meet others. So if you would like to join, have an older relative or friend who would like to, email Joleene King at [email protected]. The lunches started last year, and the photo here was taken at the fourth lunch, at The Academy in Princedale Road. “We aways welcome new volunteers, like helping with the lunch, advice, health talks, DIY and garden guardians,” says King. The garden guardians go to peoples houses and either plant up window boxes or help in the older persons garden, which doesn’t just make it all look pretty, King points out: “If people’s houses look unkempt at the front they are more likely to be targeted by burglars.” One of the Academy lunchers, Jill Barton, says: “I think the lunches are a lovely idea. It would be nice to have a club to go to too.” Fancy setting one up? Age UK K&C is based under the Westway at 1 Thorpe Close.  www.ageuk.org.uk
