Desperately seeking Notting Hill children

Wall to Wall Media Limited – the TV company behind BBC shows “Who Do You Think You Are” and “The Gift” – is producing a new primetime series called “Back in Time for the Weekend”. The series will look at how families spent their leisure time over the decades from the 1950s to the 1990s. It is a follow-up to the smash-hit series ‘Back in Time for Dinner’, a six part series for BBC2 which looked at the social history of food in post-war Britain.

Could you help with a 1950s Saturday morning cinema club scene Wall to Wall will be filming as part of “Back in Time for the Weekend”?

The filming will primarily serve to illustrate the immense popularity of the cinema in the fifties before it was rapidly dwarfed by television, and also the relative freedom children enjoyed in the 1950s compared to today.

Filming will take place on Friday 31st July between 10am and 1pm at The Gate Cinema in Notting Hill where great films from the 1950’s will be shown, along with some fifties newsreel.

Wall to Wall is looking for as many children as possible to join the crowd and is hoping some children from the local area and beyond would like to come along for something a bit different during their summer holidays. At present there isn’t  enough audience members so Wall to Wall is hoping there will be a good response.

Children aged 8 to 13 are welcome – children aged 8 may come provided they’re with an older sibling or friend. The children can also bring their big brothers/sisters, cousins and other friends.

Parents are welcome to drop off their children at the cinema and return at 1pm. There will be the requisite number of fully licensed chaperones, fully-qualified first aiders and breaks throughout the filming so the children will be well looked after.

If you’d like to take part please email the assistant producer, Rachel Eadie at [email protected], with your child’s name and age, your name and mobile number. If you will be bringing other children on behalf of their parents please supply their name and number too.

Once you’ve supplied your details, a final email will be sent out in the days before the filming to confirm the details.
