Bees in your garden

Time to put in the summer bedding plants and have a heart for those furry black and yellow bees. Honeybees are gentle creatures and feast only on pollen and nectar so they can, with careful planning and preparation, live side by side with you and your neighbours. They are such great pollinators and here are a few plants which look pretty and that they really like. They love hellebores and crocus in the spring and honesty and wallflowers through to lavender and geraniums in late May and then buddlia and alliums in mid-summer. Here is a link to all the plants they really like urbanbees . If you haven’t got a garden maybe just sign this petition to stop bees dying in their 100s? … actions

There is also a London Beekeepers’ Association for everything bee. On Sunday 12th June it is  having a monthly meeting: Bee health day, 10am – 4pm at The Ecology Centre in Holland Park
It will be about brood diseases including how to inspect bees for signs of disease using bees from the Holland Park apiary. Bring your own lunch, but tea and biscuits are provided. Members only and limited to 40 places on a first-come-first-served basis.  Here’s their website … www.lbka
