Alternative Chelsea

magical-orchard-2014-710x418 Don’t despair if you haven’t got tickets for Chelsea this year, the Chelsea Fringe shows are getting better and better. This Saturday, 17th May there will be a Kitchen Garden Gallery from 12-2pm at the St Charles Community Kitchen Garden in Exmoor Street. There’s lots of talk about how brilliant these gardens are, and there will be a workshop on making spring crowns from willow, although not sure if that is for you to pretend you are a Royal or for the dahlias. A Magical Orchard of heritage pear trees is planned for a space next to Chiswick Library and there will be bucolic scenes on 17th May on Askew Road’s Starch Green in Shepherd’s Bush, with Maypoles, croquet and Morris Men but no sheep. We quite like the idea of Passion for Peonies Belgravia’s The Flower Lounge, with rare peonies from Holland on 24th May. Chelsea Fringe, from 17th May-8th June.  www.chelseafringe
