Here’s one for asthmatics and anyone else suffering from the haze of filthy air we pump in and out of our lungs every day. 7.6% of all deaths in RBKC are attributed to particulate air pollution (diesel cars a big contributor). Nitrogen dioxide leads to respiratory disease, A&E visits and hospital admissions and if that isn’t enough, the odds of dying from cardiovascular or respiratory problems increase by over 10% for every degree rise in temperature. Happily RBKC has a new plan to reduce greenhouse gases and urban air pollutants which is open for consultation and you can have a read and have your say here rbkc.gov.uk
If you prefer a face-to-face about the local plans there will be drop-in sessions:
- Wednesday 23rd September, 12.30pm – 2pm at the Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre, 244 Acklam Road
- Saturday 3rd October, 12.30pm – 2pm at the Ecology Centre in Holland Park. The consultation closes on Monday 19th October.
