Modern portraits with Victorian backdrops

Tessellate is a new exhibition of works by hyper-realist painter Katie Buckett whose portraits with wide-eyed faces, elongated necks, and accentuated angles are placed against a backdrop of luxurious wallpapers reminiscent of a Victorian era. The models are all Buckett’s friends and family transformed into timeless portraits from another world, staring deeply back at you.

Each of the 10 portraits on show is painted in a distinctive and precise style which focusses and highlights features of the subject to create surreal, unearthly portraits.
